Civil War Book Collector Shares Disney World Band Memories

December 30th, 2011 | Posted in Barb's Notes, Books, Concert & Marching Bands, Reader Mail

MARK GOLDBERG found my website when he was looking for old civil war drum instruction books.

“They’re impossible to find,” he said. “I’m a Civil War fanatic, and I collect old drums, books, sticks, and music of that era. I also collect drums and music from the 1900s on up. I was surprised to read about your husband and his career and I thought I would just say hello.

“I moved to Orlando from LA and have freelanced here since 1985. I played in the Disney World band for many, many years, and also have played many of the other shows at Disney and other theme parks in Florida. I’ve marched up and down main Street USA thousands of times, but not in the last ten years. I now play two days a week at EPCOT (indoors at Germany) and play with the Orlando Philharmonic and also the Naples Philharmonic, among others.

“I wish I could have met your husband; it looks like we had a lot in common . . . wide variety of music and collecting antiques. Oh yeah, and the Disney World band!”

Harry Brabec’s Percussion and Civil War Books

After Harry died, I began to offer the bulk of his book and CD collections on the Amazon Marketplace. His best books in many categories were quickly snatched up by collectors, but I still have a few of his drum and percussion books left, and some of his Civil War books as well. You can view the percussion books here, but if you’re interested in out-of-print Civil War books still available on Amazon, email me at contact [at] thedrummerdrives.com.

Note that email addresses need to be hand-typed to keep them out of junk-mailer’s hands.
